A VIRGINIA LICENSE PLATE

For

NAVY CHIEF PETTY OFFICERS

The Chief Petty Officer Scholarship Fund would like to establish a new revenue sharing Virginia License Plate that honors all Navy Chief Petty Officers. To do that, we will need the help of the Virginia Chief Petty Officer community. All active duty, retired, and reserve Chief Petty Officers who reside in Virginia and are owners of vehicles currently registered and licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia should be interested.

Before consideration of any special license plate authorization, we must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Commonwealth General Assembly that we meet the statutory issuance requirements, which includes having collected 450 or more prepaid applications (application and plate fee).

The General Assembly will establish that the revenues generated from the special license plate will be shared with CPOSF.

Revenue sharing plates have a $25 annual fee and the revenue will be shared. After the sale of 1,000 sets of plates, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will share $15 of every $25 with the CPOSF.

All monies collected by CPOSF for prepaid applications will be placed in a non-interest bearing escrow account until the General Assembly approves the special plate for issuance or disapproves the plate. If the plate is disapproved, all monies will be returned to the applicants.

Anyone who desires a personalized plate, which requires an additional $10 annual fee, must also include that fee with his or her prepaid application.

The International Symbol of Access (ISA), also known as the disabled symbol, is available for all special license plates upon request.

Each prepaid application must be on a form prescribed by the DMV and the applicant must own and maintain an active registration for the vehicle listed on the application. The DMV prescribed form is License Plate Application (VSA 10) and is available for download from either the DMV site at www.dmvNOW.com or the CPOSF web site at www.cposf.org. NOTE: All applications must be for active vehicle registrations; therefore, applications for souvenir license plates cannot be included in the required 450 prepaid applications.

All prepaid applications and fees will be collected and maintained by the CPOSF Treasurer, Mr. David Mazzaferro. Once applications have been completed, they should be mailed along with a check for the annual fee and the additional personalized plate fee (if desired) to the following address:

CPOSF Treasurer
328 Office Square Lane
Suite 101A
Virginia Beach, VA 23462

Please ensure that the applicants name, address, and phone number are provided and kept up to date so that the CPOSF may accurately account for each application and be able to return any fee(s) should the plate be disallowed by the General Assembly.

There will be a continuous update of the status of prepaid applications posted on the CPOSF website.

Once we have our 450 prepaid applications we will submit our proposed plate design and the required applications and fees to the Commonwealth for consideration. When the final decision is made regarding issuance of the plate the results will be immediately posted on the CPOSF website.
